If someone ever wants to take nude photos of you, get the money upfront.

If you just laughed at the title, then you will love to meet my hilarious friends Gina and Isaac at the wedding! Their HIKSAF letter

I also received an awesome memory book a few days ago from Miss Carrie D and today a really special book of a similar nature. Today's book contained some awesome recipies and I'm so excited to have them! Especially some 'top secret' recipies! Homemade ginger ale! Chicken adobo! All sorts of fun with pineapple! Great Granny Madge's chocolate pie (yes, I'm named after her)! Sweet potato muffins, cream brûlée, caramelised tofu, peanut stew, hot caprese dip, pork and poblano soup! This is just a sampling if recipies. I just want to start cooking now :) however! My sister the chef, where are your top secret recipies???
Here is a photo of me and my new gear post bootcamp. Apologies for the dorky outfit when wearing an otherwise awesome new apron!!
FYI: My artwork in the background on a bookshelf that will collapse any minute. If I just knew a structural engineer.....
Thanks all!!

Well planned

Opened up today's gift after an extremely long week at work. I think I know my older sister well enough to have predicted this gift (was secretly hoping anyway!) all I need now is a list of what gift goes with which person and I'll be all set! Thanks also to one of Forrest's good buddies, Mary, for the lovely card and gift card, I just love amazon!

Thursday !

Today was near a 12 hour work day and after we ventured to First Thursdays, a new Christchurch initiative  with food vendors, art and a night market! Was really awesome to see people out and about, friendly and active after 6pm!!!
A real city!

When we got home I received the most beautiful bespoke items from Kathy!! Just love the thoughtfulness and care in these pieces. Thank you so much, how special!!!
Also a hilarious HIKSAF letter from my brother Bradley (Timmy) & Maggie! I sort of forgot I stayed with Bradley for two weeks in Huntington Beach, (post Phoenix and pre Boston) but he remembered :) it's amazing really how busy the mind gets and how easily things are forgotten. What a great time we had though! xo

Handwriting, a lost art

Pretty exhausted today. Work is pretty intense, trying to fit in yoga in the morning and wedding planning in the evening, not to mention assemin some sort of healthy dinner.
Regardless, enjoyed a random collection of things that I was presented with today. Including a HIKSAF letter from the best mans wife, Joy! And what amazing handwriting she has :) pretty handwriting from a pretty lady! funny that all of Forrest's buddies have the same hilarious memory of him getting a truck stuck on a beach... Must have really been something!

Bits and pieces!

Today's little gift was an assortment of things, from I think, Aunt Nancy ? It even included a portable coffee plunger, neat!
The HIKSAF letter was from my mom, including a statement that she first met Forrest at a Gulick Christmas, and how brave that was! Ha :)
Thanks!

We've really been in planning mode, which has been great (sort of, in that stressful way). Took a break last night to do a painting with some work colleagues. Didn't turn out awesome, but was entertaining .

I Wish It Hadn’t Taken Me 10 Years to Learn . . .(About Being Married)

1. When you find out what really ticks him off, stop doing it.
2. He is not your dad.
3. Husband’s first aid kit: Is he discouraged? (Sex.) Is he lonely? (Sex.) Is he feeling hopeless? (Sex.) Is he grieving? (Sex.) Is he tired? (Sex.)
4. He doesn’t know what you’re feeling. You have to tell him.
5. He doesn’t know what you’re thinking. You have to tell him.
6. He doesn’t know why you’re upset. You have to tell him.
7. He didn’t stop being who he is when you got married. Let him go play with the guys. Let him pursue his hobbies.
8. A man needs time to unwind after work. Give him space.9. Don’t complain to your girlfriends about him.
10. Tell your girlfriends how awesome he is. Brag.
11. Put yourself in his shoes. What was his day like? Did he sleep well?
12. Learn to be a good cook. (But if you can’t, distract him in the bedroom.)
13. You wouldn’t make him go days without food or water. Don’t make him go days without you. If you know what I mean.
14. Not in the mood? Ask for 15 minutes and go get that way. A bubble bath? Perfume? Women are crock pots and need more time to heat up.
15. Learn your man’s language. What makes him feel most loved?
16. Make sure he has clean socks and underwear in the drawer.
17. Apologize. Quickly.
18. Study any flaws in how you express anger and fix them.
19. Practice grace. Let the poor guy have some faults.

Slipping into Something More Comfortable

So Forrest has this notion that when women 'slip into something more comfortable' it's always lingerie. Skimpy lingerie. And all the women of the world know this isn't true.
But for me 'more comfortable' is oversized pajama pants and a t shirt, probably a hooded sweatshirt as well ::quickly checking my outfit, yes, exactly as just described:: see this is just comfy after a long day of skirt and making sure tummy looks good in shirt and of course, heels.
Anyway, Sher, you're probably Forrest's new favorite. Thanks so much for the 'comfortable' goodies! So pretty :)
And the HIKSAF letter was pretty funny, from little sis, Lisa! She knows me very well, especially needing the dental floss and always wanting to have clean feet.
But the pitchfork/shower curtain story was pretty classic! Haha

Towels!

Hi all, happy Tuesday!
Super long day of meetings today and followed up with a 90 min yoga session and Forrest made tacos. Excellent!
Today's HIKSAF letter was from Sher! Hilarious, we've shared so many fun times!
I received some lovely gifts as well. A whole bunch of towels from, I'm assuming, Mother dearest, she is always giving me towels, haha. And a lovely card and gift card from Maggie, Bradley's sweet lady! Thanks all!

The 15 Longest Lasting Celebrity Marriages

1. Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick

Married: September 4, 1988 – present
Duration: 26 years
How they met: Filming the play Lemon Sky for PBS in the late ‘80s. Sedgwick wasn’t too fond of Bacon at first (“He wasn't very friendly, he had an attitude.”), and he knew it (“I was more into her than she was into me. I think she found me cocky and pretentious.”). He asked her out a few times. She eventually broke down, and they married months later.

2. Michael J. Fox and Tracy Pollan

Married: July 16, 1988 – present
Duration: 26 years
How they met: Well, it was on Family Ties—but nothing happened at first. The couple told Oprah:
POLLAN: It wasn't that I wasn't attracted to him—I was just dating someone else.
FOX: And it wasn't that I wasn't attracted to her—the guy she was dating was just bigger than me.
They officially began seeing each other in 1987, while filming Bright Lights, Big City.

3. Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson

Married: April 30, 1988 – present
Duration: 26 years
How they met: Speaking of Bosom Buddies … the couple first crossed paths filming the cross-dressing comedy in 1981. Wilson played the Lucifer-loving romantic interest to Hanks’ co-star, Peter Scolari. Three years later, Hanks starred with her in Volunteers, and sparks flew. In time, Hanks left his unhappy marriage, and Wilson broke up with her fiancée, claiming, "I didn't know what being in love was until I met Tom.” The couple wed in 1988.

4. Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Brad Hall

Married: June 25, 1987 – present
Duration: 27 years
How they met: In college! Both were heavily into the comedy scene at Northwestern University. In 1982, their troupe, the Practical Theater Company, attracted the attention of SNL’s then-producer, Dick Ebersol, who hired all four members right out of school. Julia’s been with Hall ever since. “Brad was the right guy, and he’s remained the right guy,” she says.

5. Mark Harmon and Pam Dawber

Married: March 21, 1987 – present
Duration: 27 years
How they met: Famously private about their relationship, rumor has it the pair hooked up at a party in March of 1986, two months after Harmon was named People Magazine’s Sexiest Man Alive. (From that interview: "When I marry, I want it to be everything this town says it can't be. I'm not into catting around.") They were engaged by summer’s end and wed the following March.

6. Jamie Lee Curtis and Christopher Guest

Married: December 18, 1984 – present
Duration: almost 30 years
How they met: Years before their official first date, Curtis saw a picture of Guest in Rolling Stone—dressed like this, promoting This is Spinal Tap—and said to a friend, “I’m going to marry that man.” She cold-called him, and he never called back. Months later, they locked eyes at a Hollywood restaurant called Hugo’s. He phoned the next day, and they walked the aisle less than six months later.

7. Keith Richards and Patti Hansen

Married: December 18, 1983 (his 40th birthday) – present
Duration: about 31 years
How they met: The first time was in 1979, when he scored champagne for her at Studio 54; they hooked up for good at Richards' 36th birthday party months later. Hansen describes him as a romantic, sending her mix tapes and letters “written with his own blood.” And though her parents weren’t pleased at first—especially after Keef drunkenly wrecked his guitar on their dining-room table—the couple married in 1983, with Mick Jagger playing best man.

8. Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne

Married: July 4, 1982 – present
Duration: 32 years
How they met: Sharon’s father, Don Arden, was famously managing Black Sabbath when his 17-year-old daughter first met frontman Ozzy Osbourne in the early ‘70s. By 1979, Ozzy was a solo act, Sharon was his lover and manager, and the rest … is bat-biting, drug-and-alcohol-fueled, reality show history.

9. Danny DeVito and Rhea Perlman

Married: January 28, 1982 – present
Duration: 32 years
How they met: The diminutive pair hooked up in 1971 during a cast dinner for a play, The Shrinking Bride, in which DeVito played a stable boy. They moved in together after two weeks, then dated for 11 years before tying the knot. (Fun fact: Their wedding march was "I'm in the Mood for Love" from The Little Rascals.) With the exception of a brief—and alarming!—separation in 2012, they’ve been going strong ever since.

10. Johnny Cash And June Carter

Married: May 1, 1968 - May 15, 2003 (her death)
Duration: 35 years
How they met: June first heard Johnny’s voice while on tour with Elvis Presley; the King was a big fan and personal friend. Then, in July of 1956, she was tuning her guitar backstage at Nashville’s Grand Ole Opry when Cash took her hand and said, “I've always wanted to meet you.” They married 12 years later—he proposed to her onstage—after a long and somewhat tortured courtship.

11. George Burns and Gracie Allen

Married: January 7, 1926 - August 27, 1964 (her death)
Duration: 38 years
How they met: It was 1923. He was 27. She was 17 (or 18 – her date of birth is debated) and already engaged. They were vaudeville partners first, until it became more than a professional collaboration—for George, at least. As the act grew more popular, he fell more in love. Finally, he threatened to quit if she didn’t marry him. Needless to say, the ultimatum worked.

12. Mel Brooks and Anne Bancroft

Married: August 5, 1964 - June 6, 2005 (her death)
Duration: about 41 years
How they met: At a taping of the Perry Como variety show. Bancroft sang “Married, I Could Always Get,” and walked offstage into Brooks, who greeted her with, "I'm Mel Brooks and I'm going to marry you."

13. Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward

Married: January 29, 1958 – September 26, 2008 (his death)
Duration: 50 years
How they met: The story goes that a young Newman was living in New York with his two children and then-wife, Jackie Witte, when he scored a part in a play called Picnic. Woodward was the leading lady’s understudy. The actors grew to love each other’s company, but remained friends until Newman left Witte (whom he divorced in 1957). According to reports, Newman struggled with the circumstances, but shut down nosy reporters by claiming, “It’s simply nobody’s business.”

14. Ossie Davis and Ruby Dee

Married: 1948 - February 4, 2005 (his death)
Duration: 57 years
How they met: In 1946, Davis starred in a play called Jeb in New York City; Dee was an understudy for another role. They wed two years later, and had three children, Guy, Nora, and Hasna, during their long union. Dee passed recently, on June 11, 2014. Her plan was to be cremated and have her ashes placed in an urn with her husband’s, inscribed, “In this thing together.”

15. Jerry Stiller and Anne Meara

Married: September 14, 1954 - present
Duration: 60 years
How they met: In the early '50s, Meara, a struggling actress, met with an agent, and came out of his office crying. Stiller, sitting in the waiting room for the next interview, discovered the agent had been hitting on her, and took Meara for a cup of coffee to comfort her. This exchange sealed the deal:
STILLER: Can I pick up the check?
MEARA: Forget the check. Pick up some silverware, stick it in your pocket, and let’s get the hell out of here.

The (Funny) Definition of Marriage

  • Marriages are made in heaven. But again, so are thunder and lightning
  • Husband and wife become two sides of a coin... They can't face each other, but they still stay together.
  • Married life is very frustrating. In the first year of marriage, the man speaks and the woman listens. In the second year, the woman speaks and the man listens. In the third year, they both speak and the neighbors listen.
  • When a man opens the door of his car for his wife, you can be sure of one thing: Either the car is new, or the wife is.
  • Marriage is when a man and woman become as one.  The trouble starts when they try to decide which one.
  • Before marriage, a man will lie awake all night thinking about something she says. After marriage, he will fall asleep before she finishes talking.
  • Every man wants a wife who is beautiful, understanding, economical, and a good cook. But the law allows only one wife.
  • They say when a man holds a woman's hand before marriage, that is LOVE. . After marriage, that is SELF DEFENSE.
  • A wife becomes a "SEX OBJECT" when every time the husband asks for sex. She objects.
  • Marriage is the only war where you get to sleep with the enemy.
  • Marriage is an institution…where the man loses his Bachelor's Degree and the woman gets her Master's Degree.
  • Marriage is love. Love is blind. Therefore, marriage is an institution for the blind.
  • LOVE is a long sweet dream; MARRIAGE is the alarm clock.
  • When a newly married man looks happy, we know why. But, when a 10‐year married man looks happy, we wonder why
  • Marriage is not a word. It is a sentence... a LIFE SENTENCE.

Wine & Yarn !!

Hi there! Yesterday after work started with a fun wine tasting for Black Estate wine, one of Alicia's favourite wines while visiting us in November 2012!
After the wine tasting and leftover paella, I opened a nice 'how I know Sara and Forrest' (HIKSAF) letter from one of my future mother-in-laws, Sheila. I also got a nice little mystery soap gift that smells delicious!

Tonight I went to a much needed yoga class and after a quick shower and dinner we sped off (quite literally) to our last wedding preparation class. I think we will do right, being that Forrest listed 'fun!' as one of our top five values :)
After class I opened my next gift which was a HIKSAF letter from aformentioned Alicia! What a coincidence!

The gift was an amazing surprise from my dear friends Martha, Bobby and their alpacas!! I'm so excited for this lovely yarn!! So excited that I had to steal a photo from Facebook to show off the yarn source :)
Thanks all!!
